Increasing your Race Driving Power with powerful Go Kart Clutches

The clutch is a device which is found in any automobile, which helps transfer the power of the engine to the vehicle's steering wheel. It is an essential mechanical part of any racing vehicle, even go karts.

Go karts make use of two common types of clutches, which are the Centrifugal clutch and the Torque Converters.

The first common type of go kart clutch is the centrifugal clutch. When you see a centrifugal clutch, the part that is visible is called the clutch housing. Inside of it, the actual clutch is found, which expands when the engine shaft begins to rotate. This expansion is due to the centrifugal forces caused by the spinning. When the shaft spins fast enough, the shoes create friction with the outer housing, and they "lock up". When this happens, the engine force is then brought to the sprocket (that is attached to the housing) and to the go kart chain. This centrifugal go kart clutches come in several tooth patterns to suit different go kart engines.

The other type is the torque converter go kart clutch. This automatic transmission device\ allow more power to move into the engine. It also makes for as a more refined shifting action and an automatic infinite variation. Fast accelerating and going on upward terrains can also be much easier with this kind of clutch device. Also, the torque converter is weatherproof. But although it has more advantages than the centrifugal clutch, it is much more costly, with a price that can go up to $180.

Whatever type of clutch you place in your go kart engine, you have to make sure to take proper precaution in installing and caring for it, for you to be safe on the road. Here are a few tips on clutch installation and maintenance.

* When removing the bolts on the old clutch, make sure that you use the proper wrench size. Never attempt to disentangle the clutch by prying against the go kart engine's side, since the clutch and engine can both get damaged. If rust has accumulated over the go kart clutch, put some light weight oil to make it easier to remove. If you're really inexperienced on clutch removals, then try to ask for help from your local dealer, or any engine repair shop.

* There are instances wherein the old clutch hasn't been thoroughly removed. Check properly if the every bit of the old clutch has been removed, before installing a new one.

* Lubrication is necessary for any centrifugal clutch. Make sure that you get to oil the clutch before and after you use the go kart. You can also oil the go kart chain as well.

* Make sure that your clutch is always free from dirt, so that it can be used for a longer period of time. Dust and dirt can wear your go kart clutch as well as other parts, including the chain, the sprocket, and so on.

* Your clutch appearance can tell you what the condition of your clutch is. For example, if you see a blue tinge on your clutch shoes, then the clutch is slipping. You can correct this by using a different technique in riding. If you see a bluish tinge on the bushing part this can indicate a heating problem, and oiling is the best solution.

Your clutch is an essential part of your go kart. Make sure that you take good, proper care of it to avoid any accidents when driving.
